Hello from the gang at the shop. Most of us at
FineTrains have been train nuts since we opened our first train set
as a kid. For our senior members it was a Lionel post war set. For
the less seasoned a Tyco Chattanooga Choo Choo set and for the
youngsters it was that practically indestructible Athearn HO scale
F7 Santa Fe locomotive. But for all of us, it was the chance to
recreate - as best as our skills and materials would allow - a time
and place of our own choosing from history or fantasy.
Railroads hold a place in history that is
almost universal to the modern industrialized world. In America,
they literally created the path for our industrial strength. Every
railroad tie was another few feet of progress along what would
become a vital transportation network known by every hobo simply as
- The Road. Trains represented something more down there around the
next bend whether it was a new town, a new job, a girl, a family
vacation, or just another idea tossed under the wheels.
For us, that rich history and the trains are
inseparable. While we come from very different backgrounds, we can
all agree on one thing - we like trains a lot. Everyone who has ever
tried to build a small train layout scene understands the
amount of time, discipline, dedication - and these days - money it requires. What is less clear while we all have a sense of what it
should be is how much detail is enough. How many rivets do we need
and by the time we put them all in will we be too old to see them?

If we had all the time in the world to work on every project until it reached
that mythical peak of perfection, we would add just one more detail (trust us we
know - we've been there). This is what we do at FineTrains every day. We try
to strike a perfect balance between what it costs to take the time to make a
finished model that you and all your friends will look at and think - wow that
had to have taken a lot of time and effort to make and what is affordable.
Several years ago we made the decision to come out of the shadows of a
very successful third party custom modeling business to business
supplier. We planned to create the unique structures, rolling stock,
locomotives and dioramas that were only previously available in the very
elite back rooms and exclusive museums of the hobby. Our goal was to put
at least one very memorable model into the hands of every devout model
railroader that wanted one.
We offer a unique
original product with the
same high quality fully detailed custom design previously only found in
fine train museums. These are NOT kits. As is our usual practice, they
are every bit as detailed,
weathered and completely assembled as our one-of-a-kind exclusive museum
offerings. What you see in our product photos are the actual finished model
that you will receive - not a box of parts and not a similar one - but
the real thing as shown.
Our
builders use the smallest environmental footprint possible. We use
plastics sparingly, spend extra money on renewable energy sources and
scour the world for non-toxic low VOC green paints. All our woods and
stains come from renewable sources. |
